PRE PRODUCTION
STORY
An adrenaline seeking couple skydive over an exotic Mediterranean island and plan to record the whole experience. The besotted couple are professionals and nothing should go wrong. Tony is anxious but not sure why, so Sara reassures him that everything will be okay.
The plane hatch opens and Sara eagerly jumps out followed by Tony. Everything is going to plan and the duo are having the time of their lives. Tony’s anxiety and concerns are put to rest until a beast brutally grabs Sara from right in front of his eyes. The monster takes Sarah to its nest.
Left alone in the sky Tony is panicked and in so much shock that he pulls his parachute too late and forgets to look for a safe landing zone. Hurtling towards the ground he crashes into thick dense forest.
Lost, disoriented and scared Tony is separated from his life long partner and begins to look for her. He finds Sara’s crash helmet not too far away from where he landed, but something lurks within the forest. Tony runs through the forest in fear, hoping he can escape and reach safety.
An opening appears and Tony runs out of the trees only to discover that he is at the very top of a cliff. He looks across the horizon and unveils the true vastness of the island. Will he ever find Sara?

Over the duration of the 7 weeks our team created an animated trailer using Maya, Unreal Engine 4, Adobe Premiere and After Effects. The ‘Death From Above’ trailer project was part of a module assignment set during the second year of our Animation BA course at Escape Studios. The module was designed so that we worked in a group of seven following industry standard practises.
Here we will explain how we developed the project from the initial storyboards to the final rendered edit.
It is worth noting that half of this project was completed during the Covid-19 crisis UK lockdown March 2020, working from home using our personal computers along with communicating and developing the project online with the team.
BRIEF
Originally the initial story was about a group of thrill seeking sky divers which jump out of a plane and intend to land on the beautiful exotic island beneath them. As the group fall through the sky they laugh and show off by performing stunts in the air- immersing themselves in the exhilarating adrenaline rush. However an ominous beast flies above, and one by one it attacks each of the skydivers. All that the group can do is watch one and other endure torturous pain as the monster works its way through the group. All they can do now is wait for their inevitable death...
